Stop At: Mingun Pahtodawgyi, Mingun Myanmar
At 08:30, our guide will meet you at your hotel and escort you to the jetty for a pleasant 1 ½ hour cruise on the Irrawaddy River to the ancient city of Mingun which is famous for many Buddhist shrines, monasteries, meditation centers and monuments of historical and cultural importance.
Upon arrival, the first call is Pa Hto Taw Gyi Pagoda, constructed under the order of King Bodawpaya. It was meant to be the largest in the world (at a projected height of 150 meters/ 500ft) but he died during construction so today it sits incomplete. However, still an impressive sight and you can see the panoramic views from the top.
Duration: 50 minutes
Stop At: Hsinbyume Pagoda, Mingun Myanmar
Next onto Hsinbyume Pagoda also known as Mya Thein Tan Pagoda (or) White Pagoda, which was built by King Sagaing in 1816 and restored in 1874. A white pagoda is quite different in design and style from most pagodas in Myanmar and was named after a princess who died in childbirth.
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Mingun Bell, Hauptstrasse, Mingun Myanmar
Also to see here is Mingun Bell, said to be the largest un-cracked, ringing bell in the world at 90-tonnes and a diameter of almost 5 metres. The Bell was made of bronze; but it is said that Buddhist devotees inserted gold and silver ornaments and jewelry into the bronze.
In the evening, you will enjoy sunset along the Irrawaddy River as you sail back to Mandalay. You will then be transferred back to the hotel.
Duration: 2 hours
