Filipino Food Tour: Comprehensive Introduction to Filipino Cuisine

1 day
About this activity
Greet your guide at the lobby of your hotel or the meet up point of your choice, then hop into your private vehicle and leave your driver to navigate as you begin your comfortable tour around Metro Manila.

Breakfast comes in 2 phases, light and heavy. Try out the iconic Pandesal, the breakfast bun of Spanish origin that every Filipino grows up eating. Slather it in some coconut jam or peanut butter to recreate a childhood favorite. Next is a shared serving of Tocino and Tapa with rice, pork preserved in sugar and beef preserved with salt. An interesting duo to experience in the morning.

With mid morning comes the mid morning snack of Turon, a cooking type of Banana that's wrapped in rice paper and deep fried with brown sugar. Try a modern twist to this dish for your own mid morning part of the tour.

Lunch comes with a star of Filipino Feasts, the Lechon. Whole Roasted Pig that has historically been the most important part of any celebration. Loosen your belts as an accompaniment of noodles, soups and other dishes will stuff you silly as you try a Southern version of the Lechon.

Try to grab a quick nap after lunch as your driver traverses the metro and brings you over to your afternoon snack. Light, cool and sweet, that is what Halo Halo is. A favorite dessert or mid afternoon snack. This version you will be trying will be a northern province version that has simpler ingredients but has a ton of milky sweet goodness.

Finally make your way to your dinner destination, share a few beers with your guide before savoring Bulalo, a dish made of beef shanks that have been simmering for hours and hours, accompanied by some other local specialties available for order on that day.

Finally, sit back and relax as your guide and driver brings you back to your hotel where you can proceed to sleep for the next dozen or so hours.
