About this activity
Siargao is a tear-drop shaped island in the Philippine Sea situated 800 kilometers southeast of Manila in the province of Surigao del Norte. The coastline is marked by a succession of reefs, small points and white, sandy beaches. The neighboring islands and islets have similar landforms.
Maqpupungko natural rock & coral pool located in Pilar, one of the sleepy municipalities of Siargao. Why is it named so? Because of a rock formation that looks like a rock squatting on another. Squat is the English term for pungkô, so adding some acting-verb suffixes, hence the word magpupungkô. A must-see to experience these totally clear, alluring and natural-pools that open up during low tide. Close to the pools you see and hear the waves breaking. There is also an ample stretch of white sand beach, perfect to have a beach picnic.
Another breathtaking site in the island is Sugba Lagoon, located right smack in the middle the second biggest Mangrove system in the Philippines. Bask in the crystal clear waters perfect place for snorkeling, swimming, relaxing in a hammock and generally enjoying the peace and quiet.
