Private Half-Day Shore Excursion to the House without Steps

‘Tahanang Walang Hagdanan’ was the brain child of a Belgian missionary nun, Sister Paula Valeriana Baerts. When she was assigned at the Philippine National Orthopaedic Centre in 1965, she saw the unfavorable conditions of the disabled and helped to improve their lives by empowering them with socio-economic skills that will help sustain them throughout their lives by building a safe haven for wheelchair users. The 4.2 hectare sprawling complex has buildings that only have ramps and practically no staircase or steps. Within its compound are workshops for various purposes – the making of wooden toys and educational tool kits, a sewing room for eco bags and other household items, a large work station for customizing wheel chairs, and work rooms for packaging services - all of which are being run by wheelchair bound workers. The products which are all handmade are sold online or in a souvenir shop located within the complex. There are also school rooms for the in-house schooling of disabled youths, a day care center for the workers’ kids, a physical therapy clinic that offers rehabilitation services to workers and nearby resident, and a gymnasium where events are held and ball games are played by the physically challenged.
