Afternoon Tour: Marrakech Ramparts And Souks

Start with the tour of the Marrakech Rampart, the symbol of the red city, which construction, commissioned by Ali Ben Youssef, began in 1126, surround the medina today: the old city. It took decades to build the ramparts so that the adobe and clay-made walls would reach more than 10 km. Those walls are interspersed by 202 square –shaped towers and 10 imposing gates give access to the town. Topped by a walkway, the 8 to 10 m- high.

Continue the tour with walking through one of the historical gates of the old Medina and walk to discover the medieval way of life of its inhabitants and their daily occupations. We will take you to the heart of the traditional markets to see different alleys, quarters and the bright colors of the stores displaying all sorts of garments, shawls and fabrics made of wool, cotton or vegetable silks; feel the texture of all these fabrics and learn about their quality. Explore one of the many herbalist stores in the Souks and learn about the spices and their use in the Moroccan cuisine, smell Arab medicinal herbs and Berber essential oils.

End our stroll on the UNESCO oral world heritage site, Jemaa El Fna square, to listen to some of the local folklore traditions such as the Berber musicians, the Gnaoua drummers, the story tellers…. We will see the local dancers, the acrobats, the snake charmers and learn about each of these ancestral performances
