About this activity
Depart from Marrakech in the morning on this small-group tour to the Imlil Valley, located approximately 40 miles (65 kilometers) south of Marrakech.
Reached by road through the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains, the valley lies at the end of a tarmac road and is known as somewhere where visitors can hire mountain guides for treks. It’s a great starting point for a trekking holiday or for climbing Mt. Toubkal, the highest peak in north Africa at 13,671 feet (4,167 metres).
On the way to Imlil village, stop at an argan oil co-operative to see Berber women extracting argan oil, a prized oil unique to Morocco. On Saturdays, visit the Berber market at Asni, walk up to the kasbah (fort) and explore the surrounding trails for panoramic views of the valley of Riraya. At this point in the mountains, you are in true Berber country.
On arrival in Imlil, meet your professional local guide for your hike through the High Atlas hills. Make a 1.5-hour round-trip walk to Armed village, and then enjoy a typical lunch at a local Berber family home before arriving at Marrakech at about 5pm.
