When you arrive at the Marseille port, your guide will pick you up from the cruise terminal and take you on your full-day private shore excursion. Traveling by luxury minivan, start by driving inland to Aix-en-Provence, a wonderful, lively Provencal town known for its handsome streets lined with impressive 17th- and 18-century houses.

Admire the best examples of Aix’s architecture on a stroll down the Cours Mirabeau, a grand boulevard lined with opulent mansions, leafy trees and tinkling fountains. Continue to Aix’s little Old Town to explore tiny streets dotted with boutiques, craft shops and squares.

You’ll then have free time to explore Aix independently. For a taste of the city’s rich artistic heritage, visit the Cézanne Studio, where you can walk in the footsteps of the famous 19th-century Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne, and see where he created masterpieces like Les Grandes Baigneuses. Entrance is at your own expense, but it’s definitely recommended for art lovers.

Then travel back to Marseille for the second part of your private shore excursion, a Marseille sightseeing tour. From the comfort of your air-conditioned minivan, explore this beautiful coastal city and stop for photos outside Notre-Dame de la Garde, the city’s eye-catching Neo-Byzantine church. If time permits, head inside for a look around.

Enjoy amazing ocean views while looking toward Château d’If, the famous fortress featured in Alexander Dumas’ novel The Count of Monte Cristo. Finish your tour with a stop outside the 11th-century Abbey of St Victor, known for its spooky crypts and catacombs. You’ll be dropped off at the port in the evening to board your cruise ship.

We were on a girlfriend trip and the private guide was informative and got us to see most of the highlights. However, we would have liked a few more photo stops.

We had a great tour. Our guide, Melanie sp? was waiting for us and she gave us a great tour. After a short tour of Marseille with plenty of information at each stop, we headed for Aix-en-Provence. After we parked, she gave us the option of going on our own the whole time or taking a walking tour with her for awhile before our free time. We took the walking tour, and we were glad we did. She oriented us to the city, but also gave us much information about the history of the city/region, the architecture, and the food. Overall, the tour was wonderful. We are a family of 6 including 4 teenagers, and even they found the tour to be interesting!
