MUCEM and Fort Saint Jean Skip the Line Ticket

One museum, two buildings

The J4 building, between sky and sea : overlooking the sea, this cube clad in elegant lacy concrete is a symbol of the new Marseille. A technological feat and a powerful architectural statement, this structure, which is linked to the Fort Saint Jean by a soaring footbridge, offers sublime panoramic views.

The Fort Saint-Jean, a historic monument : located at the entrance to the Vieux-Port, the fort that resembles a village offers possibilities for discovery, including a history trail that takes in battlements and towers, and a botanical walk. A footbridge links it with the Panier neighbourhood, ensuring continuity between the historic city centre and the museum.

 

Mucem is a societal museum. That is a recent term, that appeared in the late 1970s to refer to museums that do not focus on the fine arts. It addresses issues that are more thematic than monographic and centres around everyday objects rather than works of art, and is becoming increasingly interested in our societies today and their contemporary phenomena.
