Venados, Lobos and Pajaros islands are Mazatlan´s most important natural icons. This small archipelago is part of the Natural Protected Area: Islands of the Gulf of California, and represent a major ecological reserve for the region´s marine and terrestrial biodiversity. These islands are home to several species of resident and migratory birds like brown booby birds, pelicans reptiles, and endemic plants. A myriad of tropical colourful fish, molluscs, crustaceans and other invertebrates inhabit the rocky reefs along their coastline, local marine ecosystems that sustain most artisanal fisheries and the livelihood of many local fisherman and families.
