About this activity
Walking through Colombian cities you see a variety of snacks, fruits and juices sold by street vendors and little restaurants. You might have wondered about the ingredients and what is best to try as oftentimes there are no signs to tell you what is offered. Join our tour to get to know our delicious Colombian food with local fresh ingredients. Well start our tour at the main square of Envigado, a popular place to relax and enjoy the view of the white majestic church while being surrounded by trees in midst of the city. Before we start exploring the area and its delicious food, lets get an insight of the town and its history. Did you know that Pablo Escobar, Colombias most successful drug lord, grew up in Envigado? Next well walk the short distance to our first stops. Sampling and learning about Colombias favorites like buuelos, arepas and pandebonos its hard to choose a favorite. A hearty dish or one of the many sweet goods or a combination of both there are many options. We will be surprised about the many different types of arepas, a flatbread made of corn flour. Depending on the meal it can be stuffed or topped with various ingredients. Especially the arepa de choclo is a delicious sweet creation usually eaten with a thick slice of farmers cheese. Well make sure we don't miss out on this tasty experience! Another stop will be at a cart for churros, an addictive fried-dough pastry. There we learn why they are pressed through a star-shaped opening and can ask about churros in different countries. Walking a little further we arrive at Envigados local market, packed with vegetables, fruits, meat, fish and a lot more. Here we get to choose different sorts of exotic juice, typically mixed with water or milk, depending on your preference. Well also talk to fruit vendors and learn about different fruits and for what they are used best. Our last stop at the market will be at a fruit stand to sample every fruit you feel curious about. Back on the street our taste buds might need a little break, so why not explore the area for a bit and have a look at the many popular antique stores in Envigado before we are ready for another mouth-watering specialty. We'll have lunch in an authentic Colombian restaurant with the best bandeja paisa a traditional lunch of the area with rice, red beans, meat and a lot more. During lunch its also a good chance to try aguardiente, Colombias most popular anise-flavored liqueur. After lunch you'll return to your hotel or to another destination you'd like to continue your day in Medellin.
