About this activity
Enjoy a day packed full of the most interesting and gorgeous places on the Gran City Tour Medellin and let our expert guide tell you more about Colombian culture and history. You will be taken to important historical places as well as breathtaking views over Medellín and its diverse scenery. After picking you up at your hotel we will start off our tour in Pueblito Paisa, a replica of a traditional small Antioquia town, where we admire the typical large whitewashed houses decorated with beautifully painted doors as well as a traditional church and town hall. We also get to enjoy an incredible view as Nutibara Hill is the perfect place to look over Medellín. On our way to the city center we´ll walk through tree-lined avenues of a beautiful neighborhood called Laureles. The area offers everything you can dream of if you´re looking for a good restaurant or food court. If you like we’ll stay for a short while and try a typical Colombian dish. Our next stop will be at Plaza Botero, right in the center of Medellín, where we are going to discover the unique style of Fernando Botero, Colombia´s famous artist. As we have a look at the sculptures with their disproportioned body parts and unusual inflation we learn about Botero’s sense of humor and irony but also criticism. Afterwards we will also get the chance to admire the world’s largest collection of his paintings in the adjacent Museum of Antioquia and can also have a look at pre-Hispanic, Colonial and Contemporary art and much more. Walking the short distance to Berrío Square we talk a bit more about the surrounding buildings or the city’s transport options. The square is considered the heart of the city since it was built back in 1680. Located in the middle of the square we can see a statue of Pedro Justo Berrío, once governor of Antioquia and an important political figure for Medellín and Colombia. After savoring a typical Colombian dish, we’ll head to another must-see attraction, the Botanical Garden. We’ll get the chance to visit the award-winning Orchideorama as well as theme gardens with more than 1000 different species of plants. Next, we’ll continue our tour at the Parque de Los Deseos, the Wish’s Park, only a few minutes away. Located next to the University of Antioquia it is a popular place to hang out and oftentimes listen to a concert or watch a movie outdoor on a big screen. Afterwards we’ll board the Metro cable and ascend to the Santo Domingo Library on top of a mountain in the north of Medellín. We will have a look at three modern black buildings and we are going to see how this ‘library park’ has leaded an educational model for social transformation. It was built after the previously isolated district was connected with downtown Medellín by Metrocable and contributed to making the area safer and more attractive. Thanks to this project like and many others, Medellín was awarded in 2013 as the ‘Most Innovative City in the World’. As we leave the library we’ll have another look at our surroundings, admiring the sight of Medellín between the mountains before we’re on our way back to your hotel.
