The airfield's restaurant is open to the public and specializes in seafood. A few kilometres further east on the highway is the Bunyip River.

Pass By: Koo Wee Rup Recreation Reserve, 30 Denhams Rd, Koo Wee Rup VIC 3981, Australia

KooWeeRup is aboriginal for 'blackfish swimming', takes its name from the fish which populated the area formerly known as 'The Great Swamp'.

Stop At: Maru Koala and Animal Park, 1650 Bass Hwy, Grantville, Victoria 3984 Australia

Operating since 1983, only a 1hr 45min drive from Melbourne directly to Phillip Island, you will break this up and stop along the way to visit Maru Koala and Animal Park, Maru are passionate about fostering an understanding and appreciation of native wildlife and their environment. Maru showcase this through tactile experiences where you can hand-feed, pat and ‘get in touch with’ many of the animals, including koalas under guidance from the parks trained keepers. The park keepers provide regular talks to encourage you to learn more about the animals and Maru is also an authorised Wildlife Shelter, rehabilitating injured and orphaned native animals and then returning them to the wild.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Phillip Island Nature Parks - Penguin Parade, 1019 Ventnor Rd Summerlannds Estate, Summerlands, Phillip Island, Victoria 3922 Australia

As the sun begins to set it is time to make your way to the Penguin Parade, the Little Penguins only come out of the water after the sun has gone down so that they can be sure to stay out of the way of any predators in the air above them.

The Penguin Parade ask that no photography is taken from this point on, this is to protect the sensitive eyes of the Little Penguins and ensure they are not scared, Wildlife Tours fully supports this request and we believe you will enjoy getting to witness such an amazing natural spectacle without the distraction of getting the ‘perfect photo’ – allow yourself to be fully immersed in the experience!

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: The Nobbies Centre, 1320 Ventnor Rd, Summerlands, Phillip Island, Victoria 3922 Australia

As you enter Summerlands you will notice the absence of any housing, this is the part of the island which is all National Park. You will see the small wooden man-made burrows in which penguins who have not gone out fishing for the day are hiding. We will take a walk out around the board walks of ‘The Nobbies’ and have a look to see if we can spot any Little Penguins in their burrows, follow the walkways around to view ‘The Blowhole’ where waves come crashing up onto the dark volcanic rock, the caves and formations at this naturally craggy peninsula make for many dramatic photos, with the backdrop of Seal Rocks – on a sunny day you might be lucky enough to see Australian Fur Seals basking in the sun.

If you do not fancy braving the boardwalks then step inside the Nobbies Information Centre where you can peruse the gift shop, grab a hot drink or discover the ‘Antarctic Journey Experience’, Antarctic Journey Entry can be added on for $18pp and gives an immersive insight into the many marine animals of the Southern Hemisphere, as a WWF attraction your entrance fee will go directly back into helping protect and preserve these majestic creatures of the deep Southern and Antarctic Oceans.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Cape Woolamai Beach, Phillip Island, Victoria Australia

After you have fully checked out all the Aussie animals at Maru, it’s time to head to the Island! Crossing over the bridge in San Remo arrive to Phillip Island and make your way down to Cape Woolamai Surf Beach. Breathe in the sea air and taking a walk along the beach provides stunning views of this volcanic coastline. Look for Pyramid Rock in the distance!

too big group of more than 50 people. pretty boring zoo and lunch time is very short due to long queue. penguins came but not like as I expected. just some small groups were shown then you can see penguins from deck but need to rush to be back.

Very average. The tour operator was wildlife Tours and they outsourced it to another operator. Very boring guide. It seems that he was doing us a favor by taking us on this tour. I would not recommend this tour with this operator. Overall it's a good one day outing to the Philip Island. We did get to see a lot of penguins. Do remember, it's best to view the penguins from the boardwalk rather than viewing them from the seating area.

It was a wonderful day. Our guide/driver Carl was funny, entertaining and knowledgeable. He didnt mind getting down and dirty to find wild penguins for us to get a pic, not at Penguin Parade. We shared a lot of information and ensured we all had a great time. Highly recommend the trip for singles or families. The only negative was the food, I suggest you bring some snacks. Lunch was ok, buying at the sites is expensive and small selection.

This was one of our favorite things we did while in Australia. The penguins were so cute, we had lots more time than other tours to watch as they came up the beach. Our guide gave the best advice about when and how to view the penguins.

It was fun to see those Parrots in natural habitual, and see Penguin parade. It was a different experience. I am recommending. We went in July it was cold in the evening, make sure to have a worm jacket. We enjoyed.

If you like penguins, then this is the tour for you! Despite this being quite a tourist trap location, this tour company does a great job giving you advice on how best to see the thousand penguins coming up the beach/ cliffside. It is such a cool experience and I totally recommend it. You also get to feed some baby and adult kangaroos and hang out with them and get to see some other great Australia wildlife as well. You can also pay extra money to get a photo holding a koala, which is pretty unique b/c there aren't a lot of locations that let you do that. Tour guide was a great kid with a lot of good info and they set up lunch for you and everything, which is nice, but average.
