Explore the amazing Mayan Ruins of Dzibilchaltun and relax at one of the most popular beach clubs in Progreso THE SILCER BEACH CLUB. You'll also enjoy both pick up and drop off at the cruise ship terminal or hotel.
You will start this fun-filled day when you meet your friendly, bilingual guide at the cruise ship terminal. You'll be shown to comfortable and air-conditioned transportation for the 40-minute drive to the ruin site.
Once you are at the Dzibilchaltun Mayan Ruins, you'll follow your guide through what was once the largest cities in ancient Mesoamerica. The first settlers arrived at this spot about 500 B.C. and continued to build and settle until the Spanish Conquest of 1540 AD. This ruin covers about 19 square kilometers and had around 8,400 structures in the round enclave. Once it was home to over 40,000 inhabitants. There is so much to see at these great ruins!
On your walk, your experienced guide will tell you information about the culture, as well as the meaning and use of the structures you'll see. One of the most impressive is the Temple of the Seven Dolls so named because 7 small effigy dolls were found inside. The structure has steps on all 4 sides built on a pyramid base and a long column that extends upwards with four windows. It is a masterpiece of architecture due to the fact that on both the spring and fall equinoxes the sun shines directly through the east and west windows.
You will also be shown to the Xlacah Cenote located at the ruins. A cenote is a constantly spring-fed body of water that was important to the inhabitants for all measures of life. You are welcome to take a dip in the cool and pristine waters if you'd like. The cool, fresh water is refreshing.
Next, you'll board your transportation for the drive back to Progreso for your time at Silcer Beach Club. This property is new and limits the amount of guests per day. The property is private so you can have a relaxing, stress-free day.
You will have access to all the facilities including the lounge chairs, umbrellas, adults and kids pools, lockers, kayaks and more! Food and drinks are available for purchase and the staff is devoted to making your day the best one possible. Note: Their menu includes items such as chicken and beef fajitas, Mexican and Yucatecan food, guacamole, nachos, burgers, hot dogs, pizza and more. They served national beer brands, soft drinks and mixed drinks.
