The caves of Loltún, are the largest and best known within the cave system located in the southern part of Yucatan, and have been equipped to safely travel a route of approximately 1,000 meters in length by means of illuminated trails, where The visitor can learn about the natural history and culture of the northern Mayan area in a period that covers more than 10,000 years, from the Pleistocene to the contemporary era.

In the various rooms, galleries and bedrooms - almost 60 m. deep and along more than 700 meters. of extension- diverse archaeological pieces, ceramics, stone artifacts, seashells, petroglyphs, corresponding to the Mayan culture in its different stages of development have been found. Remains of extinct fauna have also been found, such as mammoth, bison and feline bones.

City known as the second largest religious center of the Puuc style. Its peak period was around 800 A.D. Its boom period coincided with that of Uxmal during the 9th and 10th centuries and, like this one, was abandoned in the 11th century. Kabah, where we find a quadrangle called Codz-pop that means rolling backpack, the Arch, the masks of Chac, the Temple of the Columns and the House of the Witch.

Stop At: Zona Arqueologica Uxmal, Carretera Federal No. 261, Uxmal 97899 Mexico

Located 80 Kms. from Merida, Uxmal shows what Puuc art built in parallelepiped shapes of buildings, with smooth walls and ornate friezes. Most of the buildings at Uxmal, belong to the Classic Maya period and some to the Late Middle Phase. Chaac, the Rain God, is represented in multiple buildings: in the Palace of the Governor, the Quadrangle of the Nuns, the Pyramid of the Magician, among others.

The guide will explain the history of the archaeological site monuments, such as the Pyramid of the Magician, the Square of the Birds, the Nunnery Quadrangle, the Ball Game, the Governor's Palace and other important buildings. Then we will proceed to a restaurant for lunch.

The visit starts with the magnificent site of Uxmal, with its beautiful monuments such as the Pyramid of the Magician, the Nunnery Quadrangle, and the Temple of the Turtles. You can enjoy the light & sound show inside the Governor´s Palace. Return to the city of Mérida.
