About this activity
Meet your friendly guide in the center of Messina, and start with an orientation session to get familiar with your two-wheeled, electric, self-balancing Segway. Once you feel comfortable, you’ll weave through the modern streets of Messina, following your guide at a steady pace.
Glide across to Piazza Cairoli, the commercial center of the town, and weave through the throngs of locals going about their day-to-day business to Piazza Pugliatti, where Messina’s Court of Justice and University can be found. Pass along the wide and sweeping boulevards that are so typical of Messina and head toward Piazza Duomo, the city’s crowd-drawing square.
Continue to the Church of Santissima Annunziata dei Catalani –a lovely Arab-Norman church– and pass alongside some of the city’s finer Baroque fountains. See a monument to Don Juan of Austria, who liberated the city from the Turks in the 16th century, and then swing past the Neo-Classical palaces of Piazza Antonello.
Start to work your way back to the start point, passing San Francesco d’Assisi -a lovely medieval church- and weaving through the tree-lined paths in Messina’s public park. Visit Piazza Unità d'Italia to see Montorsoli’s Fountain of Neptune and the Palace of the Government before returning to Catalani Church.

Leo and Giovanni were lovely, and ready to try and answer any questions about Messina. We had never ridden segways before but they were patient and made us feel safe the whole time. The only let down was that the radio so you could hear the tour kept cutting out, so we missed bits.
Excellent tour of Messina. Fransceco and his lovely girlfriend were very good. They were very safety conscious, giving us a full lesson on how to operate the Segway. So do not be afraid, just do it! We saw so much of Messina via Segway mode beats walking hands down! This was my husbands first time, and he loved it. The only thing that concerned me was the meeting place. I find in Europe they do not give clear directions to a business to meet at. It is usually a piazza or on a corner. For us in North America, we are used to signs or businesses as landmarks to meet. It's just very different. However, if you bring the phone number, and are standing in a piazza, just call, they will fetch you. I highly recommend this tour, and would definitely take it again. Our overall tour was very vice. This was our 7th European Segway tour. Our meeting place was easy to find and only a couple of blocks from the boat dock. The CTS Segway guy met us and our guide Nina. The owner spoke no English but our guide spoke very good English. It was her very first time on a Segway, but she picked it up quickly as do we all on our first try. We toured around the downtown for about 2.5 hours. Ponchos were provided when we got some liquid sunshine for about 20 minutes. The clock tower church is a must see at 12noon. It has many moving parts, bells and a few surprises. It would have been nice to have a map showing the exact location to meet since CTS does not have a office there. The Segway's are transported by van to the meeting location. Overall an enjoyable tour. Helmets were offered but no headsets provided or water.
Great way to see the city of Messina. Our guide was fabulous so much history and insight were given. We received excellent instructions on operating the Segway my husband and I had never used one before. We had a blast and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone considering a different way to see the city!
The tour and guide were both good and Messina has a nice history, but I had a hard time finding the Segway tour operator. This is Viator's fault as the picture/avatar shown on my tour ticket were not of the Catalani Church where the meeting point was, but instead of a nearby cathedral. The cathedral is very nice, but it is NOT where you meet and it is not the Catalani church. The clock tower next to the cathedral is a must see show at noon everyday that lasts for 10 minutes.
Very good
