When your cruise ship docks in Messina, head off on a shore excursion to see the best of the Sicilian coast. After pickup from the Messina port, enjoy a scenic drive along the Sicilian coast and see the majestic Mt Etna independently. Considered by the Ancient Greeks to be the realm of Vulcan, the Italian god of fire, this unpredictable and ever-changing mountain rises well over 6,500 feet (1,981 meters) above sea level, making it one of the highest mountains in Europe.
Pass through the town of Giarre before arriving at the Crateri Silvestri. This strange lunar landscape is well worth a stop to take some beautiful pictures! Your driver will then take you to one of Sicily’s most beautiful places: Taormina. This picturesque town, known for its unspoiled natural beauty and climate, has been a world-famous resort since the end of the 19th century. The inhabitants have managed to preserve their local culture and ancient history while providing efficient modern organization.
Enjoy a delicious lunch at an outdoor café (own expense) and taste some of the local specialties. Then, see the Ancient Theatre of Taormina, built by the Greeks during the 3rd century BC. Look out over the magnificent Bay of Naxos and Mt Etna before continuing to the Palazzo Corvaja. This palace, built in the 14th and 15th centuries, represents several different architectural styles: Arab, Gothic and Norman. It is named after one of the oldest and most famous families of Taormina, which owned it from 1538 to 1945.
At the end of your shore excursion, your driver will bring you back to your ship at the port of Messina.

What an amazing trip!! My party of 6 and I had a wonderful time with our tour guide on our trip to Taormina and Mt. Etna. The car was spacious and comfortable, and our guide was amazing. He was knowledgeable, patient with us and a lot of fun. We enjoyed this trip and highly recommend this company to others. Luca was a great driver and tour guide! Right away he talked to us about the plan for the day that originally included Mt Etna. After talking about the pros and cons of the long drive to Mt Etna - we decided we would rather see more of the local life - it was awesome that we were able to customize the trip and we maximized our experience by far! Before taking us back to the cruise ship, Luca made a special stop for us to get fresh cannolis - AMAZING!!!
