About this activity
The "Zocalo" or main square with its dimensions certainly belongs to one of the largest city squares in the world. Flanked is the city square with the "Palacio Nacional" the current government headquarters of the Republic of Mexico. Inside the government building, between the arches, is the world-famous painting by mural artist Diego Rivera. The history of Mexico is milled in a very pictorial and detailed way by the artist and goes back from the last century to the pre-Hispanic era. The Cathedral "Metropolitana" located on the northern side of the square was completed over several centuries and by several architects. Due to their size and their skew through the village and now drained subsoil has come, certainly a highlight from the time of New Spain.
Take a break in the hidden rooftop restaurant at the back of the cathedral and enjoy a coffee or ice-cold drink (not included in the price), giving us an almost unobstructed view of the Templo Mayor. A pre-Hispanic temple building of the Mexican, which was rediscovered by accident during sewer repair work.
Continue to the "Portal de los Evangelistas" or also called "Plaza de Santo Domingo", the district of the printing-guild. Everything that can be reproduced on paper is offered there. Printed, pressed and duplicated on printer machines that go back to the time of Gutenberg. In the same corner is the House of the Inquisition which today is called the "Palacio de la Escuela de Medicina" and contains the "Museo de la Medicina Mexicana".
On the way to today closed for motorized traffic and redesigned as a pedestrian street Francisco Madero, it passes the horse-rider monument and the "Palacio de Minería" by Manuel Tolsá, where they also found the huge iron meteorites in Mexico and found were able to marvel. Arrived at the Francisco Madero is already the Kachelhaus. During the Mexican Revolution of 1910, the two revolutionary leaders Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata met there for breakfast. The covered patio and the mural by another well-known mural artist Orozco, right next to the stairwell, is a look into the interior of the building.
The Palace of Fine Arts "Bellas Artes" a marble building just off Alameda Central Park and the main post office building with the quite remarkable staircase. Italian blacksmith art of the finest in the classic Art Nouveau style. Two buildings from the 20th century by Italian architect Adamo Boari.
At the end of this guided tour we drive to the Torre Latin America, which until 1972 was the tallest building in the city of Mexico. In clear weather conditions, our 360 ° panoramic view promises a wonderful view of the city of Mexico. The tower, designed by a Mexican architect and surviving the severe earthquakes of 1957 and 1985, has received several awards and has been copied from other buildings around the world.
