The "Zocalo" or main square with its dimensions certainly belongs to one of the largest city squares in the world. Flanked is the city square with the "Palacio Nacional" the current government headquarters of the Republic of Mexico. Inside the government building, between the arches, is the world-famous painting by mural artist Diego Rivera. The history of Mexico is milled in a very pictorial and detailed way by the artist and goes back from the last century to the pre-Hispanic era. The Cathedral "Metropolitana" located on the northern side of the square was completed over several centuries and by several architects.
