My wife and I booked this trip, which was, as expected, a private guided tour of Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Pueblaall places we had wanted to see but lacked the knowledge to confidently book our experience. And this ended up being a very good ideawe had an overview of these places and didnt have the stress of researching the high spots, reserving hotels and entrance tickets, driving around, and executing the itinerary. If we had done it on our own, despite the fact that we speak passable Spanish, we would have been stressed and exhausted every evening, and it would have taken us literally 3 times the amount of time to get the same check-boxes ticked as it did on this tour. Our guide, Ricardo, was extremely knowledgeable about Mexican archeology, anthropology, and history, and I was astonished by so much of what he told us that I spent a fair bit of time online rechecking the facts, which always turned out in his favor. Our driver, Victor, was very capable and safe and gave us the idea that he really cared for us and our security. The hotels were comfortable 4 star quality, one was a bit bizarre Vegetarian, noisy, and a long walk from the center of townbut if you cant deal with that maybe dont travel in Mexico and the restaurants were great everywhere. That was the good. The less good: You gotta expect a lot of time in churches, and in markets. I suppose that is what the majority of tourists desire. On many of the tours we have taken there is the sense that there is an economy between the tour companies and the merchants that one sees along the way, and you as the tourist are part of it. Accept it. Also, this tour was great with just my wife and I and our driver and guidebut would have been ideal with two couples and okay with three couples. Some other tour companies are a little better at giving up-front itineraries which would have been helpful for planning return flights, and to give a little comfort for the daily routine. Although it never came up, exchanging contact info with the guide and driver might have been useful and given a cushion of reassurance in case of separation or emergency. Finally, although not essential, a working knowledge of Spanish was incredibly helpful on this trip as we were on our own for several hours and one or two meals most days. Puebla and Oaxaca have fewer citizens who habla ingles than you might find in Mexico City or more touristy destinations on the coasts. Just a word to the wise.
