About this activity
Visit: Papalote Museo del Nino, Avenida Constituyentes # 268, Mexico City 11830 Mexico

The museum Papalote Museo del Niño, located in Mexico City, is focused in the learning and communication skills of children, as well as team work, all led through interactive expositions of science, technology and art.

The building was created by Ricardo Legorreta in 1993. The building was made in order to help kids to interact, experiment and touch.

This museum has over 288 interactive exhibitions divided in five areas where children can touch, play and learn, just as its motto says "Toca, juega y aprende". Children are in touch with subjects as ecology, the human body, science and music, and each area features exhibitions about a specific aspect of human development.

The different areas of the museum are named after the focus they unveil:

Soy/ I am, is focused on the functions of the mind and the body. Here, kids will find activities related to identity, self-esteem and knowledge of one's body and emotions.

Comunico/ I communicate focuses on the different ways people use to communicate with each other, going from spoken and sign language, to mass media like radio, television and newspapers. Here, kids will find activities to better understand how each one of them works.

Pertenezco /I belong is focused on helping kids to understand how they relate to the things that surround them, going from small circles, like the family, to structures of larger scales, like the universe, as well as the necessity to protect the environment they live in.

Comprendo/ I understand focuses on science and the application of physics, mathematics, chemistry and geology. Here, kids will find tools to have better understanding of the importance of science to the world.

Expreso/ I express myself is focused on helping kids to develop their creative skills to express ideas, feelings and thoughts, all this through art, creation, discovery and appreciation.

The museum also has one of the biggest digital screens in Mexico City, which is the only one in Latin America. It's an IMAX screen where educational and recreational videos are played. Next to it, the museum houses the Mayan Garden (Jardín Maya), a garden themed after Mayan civilization's architecture where kids will be able to explore.
