Mexico City Tour with Canoe Ride: Xochimilco and Coyoacan
1 day
About this activity
Choose from three meeting points to meet your guide. Your first stop is Coyoacan, which in Nahuatl means “place of those coyotes.“ Coyoacán is a very popular colonial neighborhood of Mexico City, consisting mainly of two beautiful gardens: the Hidalgo Garden and the Centennial Garden. This neighborhood is full of artists including painters, musicians, urban theater, craftsmen, etc.
Your guide tells you about the history of Coyoacán, including the church, architecture, and culture. He or she gives you tips on the best places to eat in the area, as well as where to buy handicrafts (own expense). You'll have free time to walk the streets, take pictures and enjoy a rich dessert like a typical nieve or churro (own expense).
Your excursion continues to one of the favorite places of Frida Kahlo, Xochimilco, which means “The place of flowers.” In Xochimilco, ride aboard a trajinera for about an hour. Travel slowly through the canyons of Xochimilco, take pictures of the flora and fauna and if you wish, you can try delectable snacks sold there, including quesadillas, elotes, and greaves (own expense). For a little more ambiance, you'll also have the opportunity to request mariachi songs (own expense) to sing or dance. Upon return, go through the most important university in Mexico, the UNAM in Ciudad Universitaria.
Your tour concludes at your original departure point.
