It was great to get out of the crowded city and spend the day at beautiful Lake Maggiore! Shortly after we booked the tour, the captain contacted us with some options for train routes and times that would allow us to reach the boat around 9:00. He purchased tickets and sent them to us by Email. It was a nice easy train ride to the village of Arona. The captain met us at the train walked with us a short distance to the boat. Arona is a nice quiet village on the lake. We were in the Banta open bow boat, which is small but worked well for up to 4 people. The boat has some shade if needed. We traveled to the south end of the lake, which was very calm water with some nice views of the snow-covered Alps! Then we traveled north past castles, villages, villas, islands, and a monastery. We stopped along the way for some drinks and some excellent sandwiches and pastries from a local shop. When we arrived back in Arona after about 4 hours, we opted for a later return train ride so that we could spend some more time and have lunch there before heading back to the busy city. The captain was very friendly and knowledgeable. He even gave us some ideas for places to visit in Milan. The next time we are in northern Italy or one of the other areas where he has boats, we will definitely book another tour. We are already planning the next trip!
