Pablo Picasso at Palazzo Reale di Milano: Metamorfosi Exhibiton Guided Visit
After the great success of Picasso’s exhibition in 2012, Palazzo Reale once again honours the great Spanish artist with an exhibition that hosts more than 200 artworks.
The exposition ‘Picasso Metamorphosis’, which is on show from October 18th 2018 till February 17th 2019 at Palazzo Reale di Milano, is dedicated to the relationship that Picasso developed with both myths and the antiquity. It will display about 200 artworks coming from several important European museums such as the Musée National Picasso and the Musée du Louvre in Paris and the Vatican Museums in Rome.
The exposition is well promoted and produced by the City of Milan – Culture, Palazzo Reale and MondoMostreSkira, with the collaboration of the curator Pascale Picard, director of the Civic Museums of Avignon.
Picasso developed a special relationship with mythology and this is clearly noticeable in his paintings. In fact, his works often represent pseudo-mythological characters or hybrid creatures such as centaurs, fauns and minotaurs. All of these images are strictly connected to both the artist’s personal history and to ancient symbologies.
The six sections of the exhibition "Picasso Metamorphosis" compare the master's works with ceramics, statues, votive plaques and ancient reliefs that inspired and deeply influenced him, highlighting the reinvention of antiquity according to the typical patterns of his art. This comparison sets off an interesting dialogue between modern and ancient, innovation and tradition.
