Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Fiordland National Park (Te Wahipounamu), Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre, Te Anau, Fiordland National Park New Zealand

After morning pickup from your Te Anau hotel, drive two and a half hours by comfortable coach to Milford Sound. On the way, stop at picturesque Mirror Lakes to take photos and stretch your legs. Throughout your journey, your expert guide provides informative commentary on the region’s flora and fauna.

Continue to Fiordland National Park, New Zealand’s largest national park, which takes up a huge chunk of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Te Wahipounamu region. Your guide determines the itinerary depending on weather and road conditions, making it possible for you to escape the crowds on visits to places such as The Chasm nature trail (near Homer Tunnel), a Milford Sound lookout, Lake Gunn, or the Eglinton Valley.

Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Milford Sound, Te Anau, Fiordland National Park 9679 New Zealand

Arrive at Milford Sound where you join other travelers for a scenic one and a half hour cruise aboard a premium vessel equipped with large viewing windows, warm indoor seating and ample outdoor decks. Your skipper provides informative commentary as you cruise, and several friendly crew can answer questions and help you spot wildlife, such as the penguins, dolphins and seals that live in these chilly waters.

Milford Sound was carved by glaciers in the last ice age, leaving a breathtakingly beautiful range of tall mountains and cascading waterfalls. One glimpse of the staggering 5,550-foot-tall (1,692m) Mitre Peak and it's no mystery why the area is considered the Eighth Wonder of the World.

Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes

My mom and I joined this day tour in late May 2019 . Don't let the term " day tour " mislead you -- the entire jaunt, from pick - up to drop - off , took all of 13 hours -- the greater part of a day ! But the amazing beauty of the scenery we saw made it worth it. Our driver - guide was knowledgeable and drove well, although the coach was not as " luxury " as I had expected after my previous ' Viator ' experience in Perth, WA. .

Beautiful scenery, comfortable boat. The rain was heavy and made the views slightly less stunning. The drive to the Sound was ok but not as beautiful as we had expected. Overall, the mountains and fresh water lakes were the highlight of the day. My lunch order got mixed up and this led to very little to eat on a very long day.

Unfortunately our tour time for Milford Sound with the operator was continually altered. We were advised the day before that the bus had mechanically problems that would be collecting us and we were moved onto another bus coming from Queenstown. Not exactly a small group! Whilst the tour of the sound was excellent the constant changing by the operator was unprofessional.

this tour was fabulous, nice and small and personable. 'Peter' our driver for the day was superb, adding extra photo stops in when he had time. The lunch on the boat was pretty poor, but we already expected that and brought a wee bit extra of our own. Overall it was brilliant.

No pick up even though confirmed by email night before pickup was organised. Had to wait 1.5 hours and join a large group. Not what we signed up for. Never again

Our driver, Simon, was witty, fun and a wealth of information about the area, the environment, and the geologic development of the sounds. He was great. The bus we rode on from Te Anau to Milford was a little less than ideal. For a road like that, the suspension needed some work. It would sway enough to induce mild nausea and the rear tires would regularly rub in the wheel wells around tight turns or deep dips. I don't think it was unsafe, but a little unsettling. The boat was large enough to accommodate several hundred people, and did. Not at all unsafe, but a little crowded for my liking.
