About this activity
The Trostenets memorial complex unites several places of mass shootings: the death camp of Trostenets, Blagovshchina (the place of mass shootings) and Shashkovka (a place of mass burning). Here you can see the location of the camp where the crematorium, economic and administrative buildings and places of mass destruction of victims were located, as well as with documentary materials and conversations with witnesses of military events. The "Trostenets" concentration camp is the fourth in terms of the number of people killed in it after the sadly famous Auschwitz, Treblinka and Majdanek. On the territory of Belarus and the former USSR it is the largest death camp. Here civilians and prisoners of war from all countries of the Soviet Union were killed, as well as citizens of Austria, Germany (non-Aryans), Czechoslovakia and Poland.

People were shot at pre-dug trenches, corpses were buried and tampered with a caterpillar tractor. When in 1943 the outcome of the war became clear, the Nazis began to sweep away the traces of their atrocities. They unearthed compacted moats and burned the remains of the bodies of their victims. With the liberation of Minsk in the vicinity of Lesser Trostenets, pits were found with ashes from burned human bodies. The depth of some of these holes reached several meters. In all, during the Second World War, 206 500 people of different ages and nationalities were killed on the territory of the "Trostenets" death camp.
