About this activity
Make your own way to the conveniently located meeting point in Moab, then hop into the sturdy and comfortable 4WD vehicle for the scenic 2-hour drive to Chesler Park, located in the heart of the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park.

The Needles District offers awe-inspiring landscapes and scenic vistas at every turn. Admire towering multicolored rock formations, ancient rock art, desert landscapes dotted with cactus and the vibrant blue southwestern sky. Keep an eye out for a variety of critters including birds, lizards, mule deer and big horn sheep, and enjoy the scent of pinyon, juniper and sage brush in the desert air.

Your guide expertly maneuvers the 4WD over Elephant Hill, known as one of the most challenging 4WD trails in southeastern Utah. Pass Devil's Kitchen and cruise down Devil's Lane before encountering SOB Hill, another challenge to the driving skills of your guide.

At midday, enjoy a delicious buffet-style picnic lunch at a gorgeous viewpoint. Afterward, have the option to hike the Joint Trail to the spacious meadows of Chesler Park, one of Canyonlands' most spectacular spots. Expect to walk a 3-mile loop on a well-groomed trail that passes between enormous boulders and side canyons. The trail has a good walking surface and steep uphill pitch in parts, making for a challenging hike suitable for strong hikers. Or skip the hike and simply relax at the vehicle with time to soak up the beauty around you. Either way, your 4WD tour takes you to some of the more remote parts of the Canyonlands so that you can experience this stunning landscape firsthand.

After a full day of exploring by 4WD, your guide returns you to your starting point in Moab to end your tour.

This was a fabulous adventure! When I booked it, I guess I didn’t know what I was booking. Our guide Ben was an expert on off-road mountain driving. We had a wonderful experience!

This is not for the scardy cat. This is a true 4x4 experience. You will drive over boulders that you would think were impossible to get over in a motor vehicle. Our driver was very good. It was exciting, bumpy and very cool. the scenery was amazing. The driver had some quirky personality traits, but loves the land and is very skilled.

We had an amazing experience exploring the needles district with our guide, John. None of us had ever done any 4 4'ing before so really didn't know what to expect. After leaving the visitors center in the Needles district we drove to the end of the paved road. John provided knowledgeable information about everything on the way, from the geology, to the animals, to butch cassidy and the Sundance kid. At the end of the paved road we came to what I learned was Elephant Hill. I thought we were getting out to walk. Nope, John expertly guided the truck up the 40? degree incline over rocks and bolders. And so it went. He was very nonshelant about the drive, As he had done it so many times before. Later we stopped at a remote area for a nice lunch, followed by a hike though a trail that took us up through narrow rock canyons to a spot where we overlooked the whole district. John was a terrific host and we had a blast.

Amazing trip, highly recommend this to all ages. Extreme off road trip, beautiful area and Larry, our driver, was the best driver ever. Up and down hills, and rocks. There are no roads here!!!

Loved the whole experience-super memorable. The full-day was a great option as we felt that a half day would not have been enough. Our guide was super capable and a great driver and guide. Amazing scenery, good mix of crazy off-roading, hiking, etc. we loved the hike through the needles area. Loved the whole adventure worth the money, and would highly recommend it.

Amazing! Our guide, John, of Navtec Adventures was very knowledgeable about the geology and was very capable at maneuvering the terrain. Elephant Hill was specifically challenging and he handled it with the ease of a professional.
