About this activity
Don't let the size of Modena fool you, the city has a great story, set in a picturesque atmosphere. Explore the hometown of the world famous opera singer Luciano Pavarotti and Enzo Ferrari, on this sensational private walking tour.

The Modena Private Walking Tour starts from the very central located square, Piazza Roma. From here you will have a good view of the imposing Ducal Palace, built by the Este family in the 17th century, now housing the Military Academy that trains Officers for the Italian Army. Your passionate local guide will tell you about the palace and surrounding area, some gossip and how a Ducal Palace became a residence of the Italian military.

We walk through the beautiful city center, along the narrow streets and take time to admire the Renaissance palaces. Listen to your guide telling interesting histories and fun facts about the passing sites. Just around the corner from here we will find Novi Sad Park, a recently restored open-air archaeological site with ancient Roman remains. Together with your private guide we will explore this ancient area and pretend to be ancient Romans while we walk on the original Roman road, surrounded by burials and houses that go back 2000 years!

Your Private Modena Walking Tour continues through the maze of Modena's small streets and finally reaches Piazza Grande with its wonderful Cathedral and the Ghirlandina Tower. The Duomo is a gem with its magnificent art and architecture, and has one of the best preserved medieval “books of stone”. We admire the reliefs by Wiligelmo, the Apsis, the Gates and the inside of the Cathedral that invites for a peaceful atmosphere. The square has been the beating heart of the city for centuries and continues to be an important part of the city.

A few steps from the piazza we reach Albinelli Market and Corso Canal Grande with Modena’s theater dedicated to the famous Modenese tenor Luciano Pavarotti.

Modena is also famous for its balsamic vinegar and if you decide to visit a vinegar factory by yourselves then your local guide will be happy to give you recommendations.
