About this activity
Treat yourself to total relax and wellness in the relaxing atmosphere of the natural thermal springs in Saturnia which is located in the maremma area of Tuscany.
Your chauffeur/guide will greet you at the dock beside your cruise ship in Civitavecchia at 8.00am (suggested time) or at any other time of your preference.
We will proceed on a 75 minutes drive north through the Roman & Tuscan Maremma Countryside to the legendary Saturnia.
Saturnia’s thermal baths are the bubbling waters seeping through the Earth’s crust in an area stretching from Mount Amiata to the hills of Albenga and Fiora and reaching Roselle and Talamone.
The waters are rich in mineral deposits, especially sulphur which gives it a slightly “eggy” smell.
The composition of the deposits, from the scientific point of view, are composed of “a sulphurous-carbonic, sulphate-bicarbonate-alkaline mineral water, and includes among its peculiarities the presence of two dissolved gases such as hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide”. The thermal waters have a temperature of 37.5 °C and therapeutic and relaxing properties.
The Cascate del Mulino di Saturnia are one of the most evocative and fascinating places in the Maremma, and certainly among the most beautiful Free Spas in Tuscany, it is a place that has created itself naturally, originating from a travertine rock, dug by the waterfall sulphurous thermal waters and generated by the thermal torrent of the Gorello.
There are no public changing rooms, so we suggest to come dressed in your bathing suit.
Most people come prepared with large towels to make it easier to change into dry clothes after they are finished lounging in the warm waters.
