Plaza Independencia (Spanish for Independence Square) is the name of Montevideo's most important plaza. It separates Ciudad Vieja from downtown Montevideo, with the Gateway of The Citadel on one side and the beginning of 18 de Julio avenue on the other.

Pass By: Palacio Salvo, Plaza Independencia 848, Montevideo 11000 Uruguay

Palacio Salvo (English: Salvo Palace) is a building in Montevideo, Uruguay, located at the intersection of 18 de Julio Avenue and Plaza Independencia. It was designed by the architect Mario Palanti, an Italian immigrant living in Buenos Aires, who used a similar design for his Palacio Barolo in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Finished in 1928, Palacio Salvo stands 100 m (330 ft) high with the antenna included. It was the tallest building in Latin America for a brief period

Stop At: Museo del Tango - La Cumparsita, Plaza Independencia 846 Palacio Salvo, Montevideo 11108 Uruguay

The Tango Museum is the historic site where La Cumparsita "El Tango de los Tangos" was first played. The original hall where the history of Tango began has been restored and valued. The place is like transporting to a cafeteria of 1900. There is a statue of Matos Rodriguez composing music, the original piano of Café Sorocabana, and on its walls is the story of Uruguayan tango. Some unique and fun points are the Victrolas of 1900 that are in the museum, which still work perfectly and in which visitors are surprised, passing them pasta discs of 1900.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Puerta de la Ciudadela, Peatonal Sarandi y Calle Juncal. Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo Uruguay

Puerta de la Ciudadela (Gateway of the Citadel), is one of the few remaining parts of the wall that surrounded the oldest part of the city of Montevideo, the citadel, which was torn down in 1829. It is located by Plaza Independencia, in Ciudad Vieja.
