The Kuskovo Estate was built in the mid-18th century, it was the summer residence of Count Peter Sheremetev, son and heir of the famous Field Marshal of the Petrine era, the first Russian Count Boris Sheremetev. Sheremetyevs were one of the richest and most powerful families in Russia, and the estate was used by several generations of the family. The estate consists of more than 20 unique architectural monuments - among them there are the main Palace, Grotto, Hermitage, Big Stoned Greenhouse, Italian and Dutch houses, the Merciful Savior Church and the old church. An extensive French park with ponds, lakes, pavilions, Russian and Italian marble sculptures is the pearl of the estate. After the 1917 Revolution, the estate was nationalized. In 1919, the palace became a small museum of natural history, and in 1938 it was merged with the Museum of Ceramics, the only one in Russia. Today, the museum contains one of the world's largest collections of ceramics and glass of various countries from antiquity to modern times.
