Half Day Thai Cooking Class in Chiang Rai
When it comes to food, Thai often tops the list of favourites cuisines– the melanges of freshly-chopped spices and herbs, together with meat, fish or seafood, all flavoured to your own liking has captivated the hearts of many. Although Chiang Rai may not top the list as one of the places where you may find a cooking school concept of sublime quality, this very much hands-on enterprise brings customers actually home to a leading, award-winning master chef. The team behind this cooking school has devised a great morning program that includes all elements of getting the basic cooking skills for a delectable serving that you can make at home too. Complete with return transfers from your downtown Chiang Rai Hotel and a visit to a local wet market, get ready to put on an apron and start cooking!
The morning starts with a transfer from your centrally-located hotel in Chiang Rai to the cooking school in the heart of Chiang Rai (conditions apply and transfers do not include guide services). The team behind the leading cooking school in Chiang Rai warmly welcomes you to the home of the master chef, who has prepared individual working stations for all participants (up to a maximum of 8 persons). Cooking starts with getting to know the ingredients and the team will take you out to a local fresh market to buy the ingredients needed to start your culinary journey. Even before you get behind your chopping board, with your apron on and ready to fire up the gas stove, knowing what makes Thai cuisine such a delectable one starts with selecting the right ingredients. Back in the ‘class room’, it is a hands-on session where smiles, laughs and the smell of Thai food being prepared to perfection fill the home of the owner, Mrs. Kwan. Her exquisite knowledge of getting the most delicious dishes whipped up in no time also caters well for vegetarians, using lots of tofu. Depending on the season, you will be cooking various famous Thai dishes, together with learning more about the abundance of fruits and vegetables that too are part of this world-renowned cuisine. An added advantage to the concept is that the school uses only organic, hand-picked suppliers of its material, assuring the support to the local community.
At the end of the class, it is trying out what you’ve cooked. Perhaps with some hesitation but with determination that you’ve done a great job, you need to taste what you’ve cooked, all under the watchful eye of your fellow master chefs and Mrs Kwan. After completing your meal, it is time to head back to Chiang Rai, bringing home a newly learned skill and excellent, fun-filled memories of taking the recipes with you back home. We expect to arrive back at your hotel (no guide included) at around 14:00 hrs.
