About this activity
Meet Joseph at his home in Amaravathy fort. He will greet you with a refreshing glass of Tender Coconut shake. Once you’re comfortable you can head to the kitchen where you will learn to make few of the dishes from the Kerala cuisine. Learn how to marinate fish using local spices after which you can fry them. You will also learn how to make Thoran with locally grown vegetables and fresh grated coconut. After the cooking class you can head to the dining area to enjoy a scrumptious meal.
Some of the dishes that you will get to enjoy will be Vegetable stew (A dish packed with flavours from fresh local vegetables cooked in coconut milk and curry leaves) and Thoran (A traditional delicacy of Kerala made with seasonal vegetable and grated coconut) for the vegetarians. The non-vegetarians will have dishes like Fish Fry (Fish (as per catch of the day) marinated in spices and fried to give you a crunchy and tasty coating and flesh that just falls apart) and Fish mole (Mole which means stew in Malayalam is a coconut milk based mildly spiced stew made with fresh fish (as per catch of the day)). These will be served with Appam (Rice based pancakes) and Sambar (A lentil-based curry made with seasonal vegetables and homemade sambar powder). For dessert, Joseph will serve you with Payasam which is a sweet pudding made with lentils and coconut milk.
Please note: This is an unique opportunity to interact with a local and learn some tips and tricks of Indian cooking and enjoy a lovely home-cooked meal over great conversions.
