Munich Old Town for Curious Minds (Private Walk)
Enjoy the history and heritage of the Old Town of Munich from a rare perspective of a scientist. The usual route of this walk will take you from Karlstor to Odeonsplatz leading us between major sites in the Old Town: St. Michael Church, the cathedral (Frauenkirche), Marienplatz, the old castle and the new castle (the residence).
Because this is a private tour we can agree on the time and place of the start and end of the walk. It should take around 3 hours, so please take comfortable walking shoes! On the way, we may visit some churches. Other than that, no further entrances are planned.
The narrative of this tour is unique and ideal for curious minds. We will discuss, among other things, why several buildings are built in such and no other way, how the first philosophers came to Munich, the people who started the first college in the city, the role of women in history, the “travelling” university, the golden age of German science, resistance movements to the NS rule, the current state of science in Germany, and much more. All this without forgetting about the history of Munich, its rulers, citizens and beer!
