Itinerary

Day 1: Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain)

Stop At: Birkat Al Mouz Ruins, Nizwa Oman
Drive to pretty village of Birkat Al Mauz. Enjoy a walk through the lush green date plantations.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Jebel Akhdar, Al Hajar Mountains Range, Nizwa Oman
From here a 36 km stretch of winding road leads us to jebel Akhdar (2000m above sea level) the green jewel of the Al Hajjar mountain ranges, a truly unique spot in the Arabian peninsula. Enjoy the cool climate up in the mountains. A Jebel Al Akhdar is famed for its fruit orchards, laid out terrace style along the slopes of mountains, which are endowed with natural springs and aflaj. A large variety of fresh fruits apricot,fig,grapes,pears,almound,walnuts are grown here. The region iswell known for the pomegranate fruit which is of a very superior quality. The villages of saiq, wadi bani habib(the village of the old houses) & Al Ain dot the landscape. The villages overlook a spectacular landscape of dramatic peak, gorges and wadis. The roses of Jabal Al Akhdar fill the air with fragrance when in full bloom(March/April). Rose water is distilled in the homes of the villagers.

Day 2: Jebel Shams (Grand Canyon)

Stop At: Nizwa Souk, City Center Close to the fort, Nizwa 611 Oman
Our first stop is Nizwa Souq famed for its antiques and silver Jewellery. A brief photo stop at the round tower fort before proceeding ahead.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Misfat al Abreyeen, Al Hamra Oman
Visit Misfat, a pretty mountain village with stone dwelling still in existence.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Jebel Shams, Al Hamra Oman
While heading for Jabal Shams, stop at the Terrace farming village of Wadi Ghul In the Jabal Akhdar range. Jabal Shams has the highest peak in Oman 3000 metres high and offers a spectacular scenic view.

Day 3: Wadi bani Awf

Stop At: Track Wadi Bani Awf, Al Hamra Oman
Wadi Bani Auf. This picturesque drive takes you back thousand of years clearly shown in the stunning sedimentary mountains.for those with an adventurous spirit there is a wonderful canyon to explore on foot. The route through the mountains is dramatic while in contrast Bilad Sayt is one of Oman's most quaint villages with an antique old world appeal. Exploring this tranquil village on foot uncovers its patchwork of terrace farming and traditional houses laid out against the rocky slopes. Here a picnic can be enjoyed in perfect surroundings.

Stop At: Al Hazm Castle, Ar Rustaq Oman
Proceed north to visit Rustaq Al Hazm Castle is an impressive structure—one of the best examples of Islamic architecture in Oman. It is known as one of the most famous historical landmarks in the country. Built by Imam Sultan bin Seif II (whose tomb is still within the fort walls) in the early 18th century, it was recently renovated and restored — just opened again to the public at the end of 2013.

Return to Muscat late afternoon.
