About this activity
The tour begins at 4:30pm in Oman. We will cover 3 main tourist points including Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, The Old Town of Muttrah and The Old Town of Muscat. Enjoy the tour alongside a local and experienced travel guide who is fluent in English and Arabic. The guide is a local Omani who is well-informed about Oman and it's history, with experience in all sort of tours in Oman.

We will start either at Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque (or Muttrah if requested). This is the religious landmark of Oman and the guide will explain the history of the Mosque. Since this is an evening tour, you may not be able to enter the indoor praying area of the Mosque, but will be able to enjoy many of the scenic views from the outside.

After, we will head to see the Old Town of Mattrah. Your local guide will be able to walk you around inside the old town for you to see the house (optional). Next, you will take a walk on the breathtaking walk of the Corniche of Mattrah. Then you will visit the Muttrah Souk (Market). This is an old market where you can find traditional and antique shops selling Omani artifacts among the usual textiles, hardware and gold.

Then, we will head to the Old Town of Muscat, where you will see different forts and get to visit Al Alam Palace. This is Sultan Qaboos Palace built over the site of the former British Embassy.

In the evening, we will enjoy some local dinner.

Finally, the tour will end as we head back to the hotel or drop point.

Great tour by our guide Abdullah, covering a lot of the interesting sites in Muscat. We started with a drive from our hotel to Old Muscat, first stop, the AlAlam Palace, spectacularly situated nestled between the mountains. We drove there via Wadi al Kabir passing by the Al Bustan Palace Hotel, built for the GCC conference in 1985, and the first real luxury hotel in Oman. After a stop on the way, we arrived at Muttrah Souk, I always think it is more atmospheric after dark, with the call to prayer echoing, the various scents of food, spices and incense wafting from the various shops. You can find just about anything you want here. From there we went on, via the Royal Opera House, and a drive through the beach road at Qurm, then to dinner and the spectacular Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. You arent able to go inside at night, so we wandered around taking photos and enjoying the coolness of the surroundings. After that, we were driven back to our hotel. I must add that our guide Abdullah was hugely knowledgeable and informative and our conversation was wide ranging and never flagged. Lovely man, and his tour and guiding is hugely recommended. I give this tour 5 stars, purely on Abdullahs brilliant guiding. He answered any question we had fully and never faltered, in perfect English. Very highly recommended.

The driver was wonderful - however, because of a visiting royalty - most roads were closed off, and thus made it difficult to drive directly to the places to visit. He did a masterful job of circumnavigating, however, it did cut short on our time - so did not get to see some of the lighted places. And, a rush thru the typical Omanie dinner - however, we did get to it, so thankful for his endeavor to get through traffic. I was very impressed with Muscat, however feel it was hard to reconfirm all the Viator tours while cruising. However, Royal Carribean did not offer as many tours as Viator, so happy they were available.

This evening/night tour is a great introduction to Muscat in order to get your bearings on the day of arrival in the city. The native Omani guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, with excellent English and fun to be with. As the main areas of interest in Muscat are spread out from each other, I found this tour gave me a great introduction to what I wanted to see and explore in Muscat, and then could revisit some of the places on my own the following day - and from a different perspective in the daytime. The museum and transport recommendations provided by the guide proved very useful and helped me round out a great stay in Muscat.
