Off-road in the Hajar Mountains
Barka, well known for its active fish market, is your first stop. Barka is a small town with its own fort dating back to the 18th century. It was built by the third Imam of the Al Bu Said dynasty who established Muscat as the new capital of Oman. Today Barka is known for its lively fish market, the popular sweet „Halwa“ and their Friday bull fights where two animals duel against each other. Afterwards head for a masterpiece of Islamic architecture: Al Hazm Castle. Narrow tracks lead to Wadi Sahtan valley, surrounded by small villages in the middle of the mountains. Visit the petroglyphs and follow the serpentine tracks of Wadi Bani Awf valley to discover the beauty of the Hajar Mountains.
