About this activity
Your day begins with pick up from your Muscat hotel or the port at 8:30am. Meet your English-speaking driver/guide and head out to the village of Birkat Al Mauz in an air-conditioned vehicle. Spend approximately 15 minutes enjoying the tranquil gardens in the village. This area is perfect for a nice rest stop and provides you with some great photo opportunities.
Drive up to Jebel Akhdar, the Green Mountain. See the small villages along the way. Notice the terrace fields, a signature of this agricultural area. You will learn how the milder and cooler climate creates the right environment for produce to thrive. The area is known for its apricots, peaches, grapes, and pomegranates. Discover how the fragrant pink roses that grow here are transformed into Oman's famous rose water. See the many rose farms that spread out across the land, a beautiful sight. Enjoy approximately one hour of free time here.
Learn about the Aflaj irrigation channels devised by the local farmers. Understand how the channels work in concert with the terrace system. Gain insight into the people who have lived in the mountains for hundreds of years. You will be treated to an outdoor box lunch surrounded by the serene beauty of Jebel Akhdar. Admire the beauty, lush landscape, and rock formations with ancient rock art. Return to Muscat at the end of the tour.
