Stop At: Wadi Dayqah Dam, Muscat to Sur coastal road Wilayat of Quriyat, 113 Oman

About 120 wadis converge into its path, which stretches from Wilayat Dimma Wa Ta’iyeen in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate to its estuary in Wilayat Qurayat, Muscat Governorate. It is one of the year-round flowing wadis.

A dam has been built in this wadi and is considered the biggest one in the Sultanate. It can store 100 million cubic meters of water and the storage lake covers an area of 350 hectares and extends about 6km from the main body of the dam.

This dam consists of two dams: the main one is 75 meters (246 feet) high, and the secondary one is an earthen dam 48.5 meters (149 feet) high. The main dam includes a tower for water drainage. The dam lake is 8 kilometers (5 miles) long, and the dam can hold about 100 million cubic meters (more than 8,000 acre feet) of rain water.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Wadi Shab, 50km West of Sur, Sur 411 Oman

Wadi Shab, is a very popular wadi located in the Al Sharqiyah Region in Oman. It is a very popular outdoor attraction for both locals and expats, and people come here for the nature, to swim in the fresh water pools or just to have a barbecue. The main attraction of the wadi is the water fall in the cave, which you can reach after a roughly 40 mins hike and swimming in 2-3 pools. I really love coming to this wadi as it is not very far from Muscat, is easily accessible even with a saloon car and because the pools are always full with clear blue water!

Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Bimmah Sinkhole, Hawiyat Najm Park, Muscat Oman

Bimmah Sinkhole is a water-filled depression, structurally a sinkhole, in the limestone of eastern Muscat Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman. A lake of turquoise waters, it is 50 m by 70 m wide and approximately 20 m deep. It is only about 600 m away from the sea, between the coastal towns of Ḑibāb and Bimmah. The sinkhole was formed by a collapse of the surface layer due to dissolution of the underlying limestone.[ However, locals believe that it was created by a meteorite, ‘Hawaiyat Najm’, which translates to ‘The Falling Star’ in Arabic, and hence the name.[3]

To preserve the sinkhole, the local municipality developed a park, Hawiyat Najm Park (Haweat Najm Park), around it, along with a stairway leading down to the lake
