This market dates back to the reign of Tipu Sultan in the 18th century. At the time it took the
form of a small weekly market where fresh vegetables and fruits were probably the most traded
items. Today, the market has over 800 shops and is spread over 3 acres of land.
Construction of the structure of the market is housed in today began in the 1900s and advanced
in stages through the years during the reign of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. It was named after
erstwhile Maharaja Dodda Devaraja Wodeyar.
The market was designed with individual sections dedicated to different types of products. For
example, one section of the market is dedicated to fresh flowers while another deals solely puja
materials

Stop At: Dufferin Clock Tower, End Of Devaraja Market Near KR Circle, Mysuru (Mysore) India

The Silver Jubilee clock tower was built in 1927 to commemorate the silver jubilee (25 years) of
the rule of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the maharaja of Mysore. The cost for this was shared by the
palace staff of that era.
The clock tower is also called Dodda gadiara , means the "big clock tower", the "small clock
tower" being the Dufferin Clock Tower located near KR Circle.

Stop At: Rangacharlu Memorial Hall, In Main City, Mysuru (Mysore) India

The Rangacharlu Memorial Hall now well known as Mysore Town Hall was constructed in 1884
in memory of late Chettipantam Veeravalli Rangacharlu, the first dewan of mysore state.
Rangacharlu Memorial Hall housed the city improvement trust board and the municipal offices
in the past. The architecture of the building has two distinct features, the pediment with an
intricately carved figurine of goddess laxmi with elephants on both sides and the four pairs of
Corinthian columns. Rangacharlu Memorial Hall presently serves as the town hall of Mysore
City and is used for various cultural activities

Stop At: Statue of Maharaja Chamarajendar Wodeyar, Ashoka Road, Mysuru (Mysore) India

Noticeably the most beautiful structure right in front of the northern Palace gates, this statue
dates back to 1918. Sculpted by the famous British sculptor Robert Colton, it stands majestically
at the junction of Albert Victor road and Ashoka road. Made with the a white marble “Makrana”
from Rajasthan, the same marble Taj Mahal is made of.
The statue did not resemble the King Chamarajendra Wodeyar and hence the head had to be
redone by an Indian sculptor G.K Mathre.
The Circle was earlier named as Statue square but has been named as Sri Chamarajendra
Wodeyar circle.

The Wodeyars whose roots trace back to Dv?rak?, Gujarat’s Yadava community came to
Karnataka and settled in Mysore getting enthralled by its natural beauty. Starting with Yaduraya
Wodeyar who founded the Wodeyar dynasty in 1399, the Yadavas ruled the area for around six
centuries. He was first to build a palace within Mysore’s Old Fort in the 14th century, but that
was dismantled and built several times later. Immediately after the death of Tipu Sultan in May
1799, Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar III made Mysore his capital and eventually came under the
control of the British. The spelling of the royal name of the dynasty was changed to Wadiyar
from Wodeyar by his successors.
