Established in 1964, Nagano's world-famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park is home to the only troop of monkeys in the entire world known to bathe in hot springs. With no barriers between you and the monkeys (don't worry, they are very calm) this is a unique opportunity to observe these curious creatures in close proximity as the walk about you, wrestle with each other, endlessly groom, and of course, soak in their favorite hot spring! Your guide will introduce you to everything that makes them so unique and famous while giving you plenty of time to explore for yourself.
Please note that estimated time at the monkey park includes walking in and out along the forest trail - 1.6km each way / 25 minutes each way in summer, slightly longer in winter. We endeavour to give our guests 1 hour in the park to observe the monkeys.

Located within walking distance of the Snow Monkey Park, your guide will accompany to this relaxed café with a mixed menu of Japanese and Western favourites. You can enjoy a well-earned lunch before again boarding the tour vehicle and beginning the afternoon portion of the tour.

Situated only a short drive from the Snow Monkey Park, the expansive region known as Joshinetsu-kogen National Park is the ideal location to enjoy the beautiful autumn landscape including the stunning leaves turned yellow, orange, gold and red.
Known as 'koyo' in Japanese, the leaves are synonymous with autumn and best experience in the stunning alpine landscape of Nagano. We monitor the condition of the leaves and take you to different locations depending where they are at their best on the day - a relaxing and beautiful way to spend your autumn afternoon and experience one of Japan's most important natural landscapes.

- Please wear suitable shoes/boots for walking in apline areas including the forest trail into the park and alpine areas.
- There are a few days in the year that the monkeys might not come down to the park. In such case we will provide an alternative activity.
- Guests are required to follow the Snow Monkey Park rules at all times. Guests are not permitted to touch, hold, feed or bathe with the monkeys at any time. There are no barriers separating the monkeys from visitors to the park. Please ensure you keep a minimum distance of 1 to 2 meters between yourself and the monkeys. Your guide will explain the rules prior to entering the park.
- The afternoon activity takes place in Joshinetsu Kogen National Park. The park is located between elevations of 900 meters to over 2500 meters, meaning that the condition of the leaves will vary from tour to tour. We monitor the condition of the leaves and viewing sites are chosen based on where the condition is at its best on the day of the tour. All sites are located within Joshinestu Kogen National Park. Depending on the locations we visit on the day, the end time of the tour can vary between 17:30 and 18:30.
- If for any reason we are unable to provide this tour, we will instead take you to Zenko-ji Temple and ‘sake’ tasting. We will notify you of the change in itinerary 2 days in advance.
- Infants (0-5) are welcome to join the tour free of charge and as such, do not receive lunch. If food is required, please order and pay directly at the restaurant.
- Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level
