About this activity
First you will visit Nagoya Castle. Honmaru Palace at the castle was built by one of the famous Shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu in the beginning of 17th Century, Japan. The palace was the residence of a feudal lord of the region and served as a regional government office initially. However, it was transformed to an accommodation for Shoguns that was used only when they traveled between Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto. This place with more than 30 rooms is gorgeously and finley decorated with wall paintings, ornamental metal fittings, and so much more. The architecture was admired as a Samurai culture themed art museum.

Next, you’ll deepen your knowledge about “monozukuri” (manufacturing and craftsmanship) culture by watching the live demonstrations and the exhibitions of continually improving products at Toyota Commemorative Museum. This is where Toyota was started by Sakichi Toyoda as a Spinning and Weaving Company.

The company’s studious, challenging, kaizen (striving for improvement), and creative spirit led the country to a big “manufacturing” nation and this world-famous company means a lot to the locals in the Nagoya region.

After you learn about the “manufacturing spirit,” you’ll head to SCMAGLEV and Railway Park. This is the museum where you can see both the history of railways, as well as the latest technology of railways. You will be impressed not only the numbers of successive trains, but also by the passion of the technical experts that made our country famous for accurate and high speed Shinkansen (bullet trains). Finally, you will learn how the MAGLEV (magnetic train) will be operated that will start running between Tokyo and Nagoya soon in 2027. MAGLEV is a big reason why our city, Nagoya, has been rapidly growing recently, especially around the main station.
