Stop At: Giraffe Centre, Duma Rd, Nairobi Kenya

Ever wanted to have breakfast with Giraffes? Well the Giraffe manor, promises just that. This boutique style hotel is tucked away in the suburbs of Nairobi, just 10 minutes away from the National Park. A giraffe orphanage turned into a hotel by a wildlife enthusiast, the manor is a perfect place to accommodate you for your short stay. Rooms are delightfully designed and are located in strategic locations to let you have a good view of these majestic creatures or perhaps they may have a good view of you when they pop their head through the windows from time to time during the day.
Located 5 kilometres (3.1 miles) from Nairobi's city centre, the Giraffe Centre offers visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with these friendly giants

Things To Do At The Giraffe Center

Pet a Giraffe? Check. Kiss a Giraffe? Check. At the Giraffe Center you are able to site on top of a platform and stand eye to eye with the Giraffes. You are given small pellets to feed the Giraffes and there are unlimited refills. Across from the Giraffe Center is a small nature walk that features two other giraffes and a variety of unique plants and birds. This is where I was attacked by a Giraffe so make sure that you stay 50 feet (15 meters) away from them. This is the closest that you will be able to get to the giraffes in Kenya.

Stop At: David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Mbagathi Road Kws Workshop Entrance - Nairobi National Park, Nairobi 00503 Kenya

Elephant calves orphaned by poachers or natural occurrences are brought here from all over the country. They receive extremely specialized treatment and personalized care from highly dedicated staff. The orphanage is open to the public during the calves feeding times where they can interact with calves and watch them being fed while they are informed how each of the elephant calves came to be at the orphanage. There is also an option for visitors to choose to adopt an elephant where they will be in charge of the elephants care at the orphanage.

Best known for our work to protect elephants, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world. But we do much more than this.

Stop At: Karen Blixen Museum, Karen Rd Langata, Nairobi Kenya

Situated 10km from the city, This is the home of former Danish author Karen Blixen made famous by her book and the movie based on the book “Out of Africa” which chronicles her life at the estate.

The Museum is open to the Public every day (9.30 am to 6pm) including weekends and public holidays. Guided tours are offered continuously. A museum shop offers handicrafts, posters and postcards, the Movie ‘Out of Africa’, books and other Kenyan souvenirs.
Built in 1912, Karen Blixen Museum was home to Danish Author, poet and Artist- Karen Blixen. Made famous by the Oscar Award winning film ‘Out of Africa’, based on Karen’s autobiography by the same title, the then farmhouse was established as a museum in 1986 by the National Museums of Kenya.

The museum continues to captivate visitors inspired by Karen’s life story.

Stop At: Bomas of Kenya, Langata Rd Mageso Chember, Nairobi 00200 Kenya

Bomas of Kenya is a cultural tour of Kenyans ethnic groups (Mijikenda, Luo, Taita, Embu, Maasai, Kikuyu, Kamba, Kalenjin, Luhya, Kisii, and Kuria) just a few of the native represented at the venue. Its located 10km from the city centre and just a 1km off the game- filled Nairobi national park. The word “boma” means “homestead”, and here you find replicates of traditional villages that provide interesting insight about each tribe’s societal structure. It is a display of different aspects of Kenyan culture, this is clearly demonstrated through traditional dances, music, song, and folklore. You cannot afford to miss the most exciting traditional dances and acrobatic show which start at 2.30pm to 4.00pm during weekdays and 3.30pm to 5.15pm weekends and public holidays.
