Pass By: Nairobi National Park, Langata Road, Nairobi Kenya
Nairobi National Park, is the only park located close to a capital city
Stop At: Amboseli National Park, Kenya
Amboseli is famous for its big game and its great scenic beauty – and the landscape is dominated by the towering Mount Kilimanjaro. The name Amboseli comes from the Maasai place name, Empusel, meaning open plain. The park lies immediately north-west of Mount Kilimanjaro, on the border with Tanzania. The Park covers 392 square km, and forms part of the much larger 3,000 square km Amboseli ecosystem.
The National Park embodies five main wildlife habitats (open plains, acacia woodland, rocky thorn bush country, swamps and marshland) and covers part of a Pleistocene lake basin, now dry. Within this basin is a temporary lake, Lake Amboseli, which floods during years of heavy rainfall. Animals found in the park include the African elephant, buffalo, impala, lion, cheetah, hyena, giraffes, zebra, and wildebeest among others
Duration: 8 hours
Stop At: Mount Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro National Park 00255 Tanzania
The tallest Mountain in Africa
Duration: 14 hours
Stop At: Maasai Mara National Reserve Kenya, Narok 00100 Kenya
Covering an area of over 1,500 square km, the reserve is located in the Great Rift Valley in primarily open
grassland. Maasai Mara/ senrengeti is a complex but very intriguing ecosystem, it offers one of the world’s most important habitat areas for a great variety of wild African animals. There have been some 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles and over 400 birds species recorded on the reserve. Nowhere else in Africa is wildlife more abundant than Mara; among the game found include hippopotamus, cheetah, Grant’s gazelle, impala, topi, Coke’s hartebeest, giraffe, Roan antelope and the nocturnal bat-eared fox. However wildebeest are by far the dominant inhabitants of the reserve. Their numbers are estimated in the millions. The Great Migration starts in July each year when well over one million wildebeest along with large numbers of Thompson’s Gazelle, zebra and other herbivores migrate from the Serengeti plains in Tanzania to fresh pastures in the north and then back south again in October.
