7 Day Mt Kenya Hike (Rock Climbing)

Route: Sirimon – Chogoria (Rock Climbing)

DAY 1: SIRIMON GATE (2650M) - OLDMOSES CAMP (3300M).

A 25km drive from Nanyuki town to Sirimon gate where the hiking begins.

This is through the tropical rainforest with a chance to see different animals and bird species besides the dense vegetation of trees and wild flowers.

DAY 2: OLDMOSES CAMP (3300M) SHIPTONS CAMP(4200M)

After an early breakfast, a long day starts through the moorland towards the afro alpine zone.

With rivers and valleys to cross, this is a day that offers different zones of vegetation from the change of elevation as there will be about 900m gain.

The flora and fauna here changes due to adaptations, and presents yet another day of new experience on the same mountain.

DAY 3: SHIPTONS CAMP (4200M) - AUSTRIAN HUT (4793M)

This will be a peak circuit hike via the Hausberg col and Arthur seat at the alpine zone.

Here you get to view the peaks from different angles and dimensions, as you hike past multiple glacier lakes arriving at Austrian hut where you base for the rock climbing.

DAY 4: AUSTRIAN HUT (4793M) - LENANA PEAK (4985M)

This will be an early start of around 0500hrs for a 1hr hike to Lenana peak with the aim of getting there on time for a spectacular sunrise and amazing 360 degrees view.

You then return to the Austrian hut for breakfast and spend the rest of the day resting in order to prepare yourself for the climb on the following day.

On this day, if willing and need be, you can get introduced to the climbing techniques as well as precautions from your guide.

DAY 5: AUSTRIAN HUT (4973M) –NELION PEAK (5188M) AND BATIAN (5199M)

This will be the climax, and all the best as you conquer the second highest mountain in Africa and stand at the roof of our beloved country, Kenya.

This is normally a full day activity where you come back to Austrian hut for your last night at this camp.

DAY 6: AUSTRIAN HUT (4793M) – MOUNT KENYA MERU BANDAS (2950M)

This is a long way down the mountain as you behold the most gorgeous gorges valley to the eastern side of the mountain for your final night on the mountain.

DAY 7: CHOGORIA GATE (2950M) – CHOGORIA TOWN.

The Mount Kenya Meru Bandas are situated along the Chogoria gate where you will start your final hike of 9km through the chogoria forest and meet your transport to chogoria town and later transfer to your preferred destination.
