About this activity
Nairobi Cultural Experience and Shopping Tour begins with a visit to the African Heritage Gallery, located at the Carnivore grounds. Inside, the African Trader Gallery celebrates the textiles, sculpture, and unique handicraft from Africa. Our next shopping stop is at Utamaduni Craft Centre, selling a huge variety of African Curios all under one roof. Products include African Curios, African Masks, African rugs, African furniture, Ebony Furniture, African Antiques, African Jewelry, African Dolls, Safari Clothes, Kikoy, Sarong, beads and much more! Before lunch we get to visit Kazuri Bead Factory, located in the Nairobi suburb of Karen the home of beautiful hand-made beads produced by single mothers. Kazuri is a business that creates authentic African jewelry from clay. It employs a large number of single mothers in a warm and supportive work environment. The factory, which offers tours, has become a “must see” for visitors to Kenya.Lunch will be at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden Restaurant. The international menu at Karen Blixen Coffee Garden restaurant has large menu with over 40 items and they provide weekly specials. Special food theme outdoor barbecue or Mexican food buffets provide additional variety. In the afternoon depart for the Bomas of Kenya for the cultural experience. Upon arrival you will be entertained by traditional dancers and acrobats. The Bomas of Kenya also has a wonderful display of mud huts and traditional Kenyan homesteads, which you will visit after the entertainment. It’s the ideal place to bring energetic children as they can freely run in and out of the traditional houses and mud huts, climb up ladders, and generally have a wonderfully active time. These traditional houses are set out in clusters according to the region. The homes are grouped with the first wife's hut, second wife's hut, granary, etc., and you can see where the livestock are kept and the enormous variety between the huts. This is a really rewarding and informative tour. After the cultural experience depart for your Nairobi hotel.
