A wonderful day in and around Nairobi! An early morning start to see Nairobi National Park with the skyline of the city back-dropping the wildlife before moving on to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. The orphanage is one of the greatest experiences I have ever had during my travels, a mix of joy, hope, and admiration while being extremely sad and infuriating at the same time, a real emotional roller-coaster. The Giraffe Center was a lot of fun also. I had no more interest in the Blixen House than merely seeing it without paying to go inside and no interest in the Bomas of Kenya and my driver/guide was very willing to change the itinerary to accommodate the interests I did have. At a shopping stop, I had predetermined that 10 was a fair price for an embroidered tee-shirt. The shop dropped from 20 to 18 and refused to bargain any more than that, while I had gone from offering 6 to 8. Since neither party would budge at that point I said, thanks but no thanks, and took my leave and returned to the vehicle. Minutes later my driver came over to tell me the shop would sell for 10! I knew that 6 would have been a profitable sale but I have no problem with supporting a local business, I do have a problem with being abused.
