About this activity
Your guide will meet you at your hotel and drive you to the Purple Mountain area, where you can find Dr. Sun-Yat Sen’s Mausoleum. The mausoleum started construction in 1926 and the work lasted for three years. It wasn’t until 1929 that Dr. Sun was buried there.

Dr. Sun was respected as the father of Modern China since he fought unyieldingly against the corrupt Qing Dynasty government. He led the 1911 revolution to end the feudal system and founded the Republic of China leading the Chinese people into a new era. Your tour guide will be able to help you answer any questions you might have about Dr. Sun.

After, we will continue our tour to the Ming Tombs, not to be mistaken for the Ming Tombs in Beijing. The Nanjing tombs were built during the reign of Zhu Yuanzhang, who founded the capital of China in Nanjing in 1368 during the Ming Dynasty. He didn’t only build the tombs, as he also built the city’s imperial palace, and the city walls. The tombs now are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a must-see for travelers.

Then visit the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall where on Dec 13, 1937, the Japanese army occupied Nanjing and during the following six weeks, they started a bloody massacre in the city where an estimated 300,000 people were slaughtered. The innovative museum opened to the public on 2007 and consists of four parts, namely the assembly ground, the exhibition hall, the site of the massacre and the Peace Park. The museum contains plenty of documentations, sculptures and images to honour the victims, some of them donated by Japanese members of a Japanese–Chinese friendship group.

Finally, we will take you back to your hotel to spend the rest of the day on your own arrangement. If you need any dinner recommendations for the evening, don’t hesitate to ask our local tour guide.
