Daytrip from Rome to Pompei and Sorrento

You will be picked up from your hotel in Rome by your English-speaking driver in a comfortable, fully air-conditioned vehicle, then you will make your way south, to the region of Campania, where you will spend the duration of your day sightseeing. You will begin by exploring the extremely well-preserved site of Pompeii, whose ancient ruins were preserved by the volcanic ash that devastated the city in 79 AD. Pompeii was an ancient Roman town near modern Naples, to where common people went on vacation even at the time of ancient Rome. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many ancient towns in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 4-6 meters (13-20 feet) of volcanic ash and pumice, in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The ruins on site are expansive, and not every area can be visited. A private tour is recommended to see as much as possible of the ruins.

You will stop for lunch before arriving in the picturesque coastal village of Sorrento, where you will spend your afternoon. At the end of the day, you will be taken back to your hotel in Rome.

In case you have already visited Pompeii, you can substitute it with Herculaneum. The site is less famous and smaller, but still harbors a wealth of archeological findings, which include stylish mosaics, ancient advertisement and well preserved house complexes.
