Pompeii and Paestum from Naples Port Private Fullday Shore Excursion

You will be picked up from the port of Naples, where your driver will meet you holding a sign with your name on it. Pickup at 7:30am to ensure there is enough time to visit the sights.

Paestum:

UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Founded by the Greeks around 600 BCE, initially called Poseidonia, by Poseidon, or Neptune, god of the sea, which the city had been dedicated. Between 400 and 273 on it was occupied by the Italic population of Lucan. In 273 he became a Roman colony under the name of Paestum. 

The three large temples at Paestum were built according to the rules of the Doric order. The Greeks were also familiar with the Ionic order and the Corinthian order.

The capitals of the “Basilica” (c. 550 BC) are the flattest, those on the temple of Athena (c. 500 BC) are less so, while those on the temple of Neptune (c. 460 BC) display the classic features of Doric architecture.

Visiting Pompeii is not like a museum , is as live again in an ancient roman commercial town of 3 Km. Buildings, temples, shops catched in the time of the eruption.

Pompeii was an ancient Roman town near modern Naples, where the common people went on holidays at the time of the ancient Rome. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many ancient towns in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

The excavations are huge, and not every area can be visited. By the way tours can be organized to enter the excavations and see as much as possible.

Drop off at the end of the tour will be back at your ship at the port of Naples around 5:00 pm.
