About this activity
In one of his most famous letters, Pliny the Young narrates us how he survived the Vesuvius eruption of the 79AD, which caused the lava and ashes rain that partly destroyed the city of Pompeii. The buried city seemed to be lost and forgotten, but now you are given the chance to walk into the streets on the original pavement, enter the shops and the houses, challenge the acoustics of the theatres, visit the Baths and the red-light district, following your path up to the Forum – the main square – where all the political, social, artistic and religious aspects of the Pompeian life used to meet and intertwine. You will see the old city come to life under your own eyes.
After this incredible 2.5 hours tour, you will be taken to the Oplonti site, in Torre Annunziata. This archaeological area - set between Pompeii and Herculaneum - is considered to be a Pompeii suburbia, where the aristocracy and the powerful people had their otii villae erected, far away from the traffic and the noise of the busy city life. In Oplonti you will visit the amazing Villa di Poppea, a summer residence named after the famous emperor Nero’s wife. The house was luckily uninhabited during the 79AD eruption, probably due to some maintenance works started after the 62AD earthquake. You will then be guided into the villa, and shown the uniqueness of the frescoes, the mosaics and the marble statues collected into the gardens. This walk will take you more or less 1 hours.
Furthermore, you will not be asked to wait in queue, but our guides will allow you to skip the line and have immediate access to the sites. Get ready for this amazing and unbeatable experience!
