Snorkeling excursion in the Bay of Carta Romana
Join an exciting snorking excursion in the Bay of Carta Romana. Learn about the biodiversity of the seabed at the Multimedia Cultural Center 'Navigando verso Aenaria' of Ischia Ponte before encountering the organisims first hand as you explore the ancient submerged towln of Aenaria.
Begin your tour hearing about the archaeological excavation work currently underway in the bay, and projected biodiversity of the seabed and the peculiarities of the marine organisms that inhabit them.
Then prepare for your dive at the headquarters of the Marina Sant'Anna and head out to the pier to board your boat!
You will enter the waters among the rocls of Sant'Anna to observe the organisms that inhabit the bay including the prairies of Posidonia oceanica, the exclusive marine plant of the Mediterranean Sea whose production of oxygen, supports the marine ecosystem.
Below the waters surface you wil also find sea anemone, urchins, strange sea cucumbers, intensly colored starfish and a species of big lumaconi, often dark in color and soft to the touch.
Swim into a semi-submerged cave to view the sunken nymphaeum, housing ancient seaweed covered statues and proceed to glide along the wall structure dating back to Renaissance times.
Back on the boat you will continue to towards the Aragonese castle, in the waters here you'll see pelagic fish such as bream, salpe and the black castagnole (in Ischia called guarracini). Look for the large boulders, used as an ancient barrier to protect the Angevin harbor, dating back to 1200 extending from the castle to the center of the bay.
